Exfoliators! The way to soft and radiant skin. Adding an exfoliator into a daily skincare routines is a must, especially if you are looking to target dry skin, acne spots, blackheads and pores that seem to be getting bigger by the day.
I’ll admit during my early 20’s I didn’t care much about exfoliating but as I neared 30 I was seeing some changes in my skin. So about a year ago, I added a few exfoliators into my skincare regimen and have not looked back. So I thought I would compile a list of my favourite exfoliators that I think do the trick to help achieve smooth skin.
The first product on my list is Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid by Sunday Riley.
Good Genes is currently my go to exfoliator. I use it about 6 times a week at night after applying retinol. I really enjoy using this product since it not only exfoliates but also has other ingredients like licorice which help remove discolouration and plumps the skin. Also Good Genes is quite hydrating so I don’t usually follow up with a moisturise after. The great thing is that it can also be used as a mask if you need a quick resurfacing mask or have really sensitive skin.
Just a heads up for those buying from the UK as the formulation is glycolic acid and not lactic acid. Glycolic acid is the strongest AHA so keep that in mind.
Next up is Pure Revival Peel by Skin Inc.
I cannot rave enough about the Pure Revival Peel by Skin Inc. I know it says peel and that sounds so intense like chemical peels that peel off major layers of skin and peel for weeks. This is nothing like that, and it’s actually pretty non-irritating. Pure Revival Peel is the most satisfying exfoliator I have ever used because it’s quick (like under a min) and you can see the dead skin peeling away. It really leaves your face smooth and ready for makeup. Also it is gentle enough to use on the lips and under the eyes (just don’t put it too close to your eye). I love to use it on my lips before and after any lip products especially the matte kind that dry up lips. Aside from being able to exfoliate away all the dead skin, the Peel also includes ingredients that help repair damage to skin and pigmentation.
Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel is last on the list.
So I remember years and years ago my sister using these and I was like what is the big deal. Well now I know. Travel friendly and super efficient, this peel is probably a little more heavy duty than the others on this list. There are two other strengths aside from universal, called gentle and extra. The Universal Daily Peel is a two step process that does not take more than 5 minutes. The first step is the exfoliation part with the wipe consisting of 5 AHAs/BHAs and chamomile to sooth. Simply rub it all over your face (gently) till the wipe is dry while avoiding your eyes and lips. Then just wait 2 minutes. The second step is the anti-ageing neutralizer wipe. It’s full of some great ingredients like Ascorbic Acid, Retinol, Green Tea extract and Vit E. In this step, the acids are neutralized and the actives help reduce fine lines, dark spots, and treat breakouts.
Usually I use this once a week or after a really long flight. Also only in the PM. I know these are AM and PM wipes but since there’s a broad range of ingredients (especially retinol) I prefer using it at night so I don’t have to worry about my skin being more sensitive to the sun. If you do end up using this in the morning please don’t forget to use sunscreen. Well use sunscreen in general but maybe be more picky on how much goes on after this treatment.
So there you have it! My current favourite three exfoliators. While these are definitely on the pricey side (and I usually buy during sales) they do last quite a while. Especially the Dr. Dennis Gross wipes. So I feel like they are still good value for money.
Let me know if any of these are fav’s of yours too!
Till next time
